I wouldn't get that comfortable with the idea they can't sue. You don't need Wollman type evidence to win in court. You just need to meet minimum evidentiary standards. If they think they have enough evidence to convince a judge you owe money they'll sue. If they win, you'll be hard pressed to prove any damages in a FDCPA action.
Not trying to alarm you but several web sites have postings about demanding validation and getting answered with a lawsuit.
