I have one credit card (Bank of America) that is up to 2000 and its deliquent. How do I go about asking for a settlement? What is the direct conversation I need to have with the person on the phone? How do I get it cleared from my credit report?

I was reading some post that said that I should.... "try and negoiate anything you like as to amount. You would ideally like the tradeline to show pays as agreed never late or, a complete deletion.
When you have deal, ask them to reduce it to writing and send it to you. SIgn it and keep a copy." Is this the best way to do it?

I was reading the other post is there a chance that i may be sued for getting a settlement? Are there other legal issues I need to be aware of before I call and ask for a settlement that my hinder future financial endeavors.
