I was doing ok until a couple of years ago. Made house payments, paid off a school loan, paid individuals for services, went to graduate school. I'm a good citizen overall. Then, sadly, there was a down-turn at my work, I'm a single-mom and my own mother is in her 90's and I have complete responsibility for her. Big, huge credit card debt to anonymous companies resulted and come last summer, I couldn't keep up any longer. No relief in sight because my responsibilities continue on (and don't get me wrong, I love my family and would do anything for my child and my mother)because I have dependents.

Since I know from this website that I have brothers and sisters in credit card crises, may I ask what you all did? I continue to pay small amounts to a few companies, but have given up on some. What ultimately happens? Does the "law" intervene? Thanks for your perspective.
