They not violated anything in mentioning a lawyer if they follow through. For $9000 and what sounds like a recent charge off MBNA will sue. For this amount of money, I'd cut a deal. I'd bet they will have an offer in March. What you may wish to do i try and negoiate downwards. Offer 40% and dicker with them. IO'll bet you can settle for 60% or so.
Also, contact MBNA and see if you can deal with them directly. If this is recent, the CA likely is just assigned the account.
