Should I file bankruptsy?

I stopped paying most of my credit card bills one year ago due to family hardships. My accounts have been listed as charge offs on my credit report. Also the accounts have been refered to CA's for collection. I avoid their calls so now the CA's are leaving messages with my neighbors. The CA's do not disclose the reason they are trying to contact me, however my neighbors are not stupid. I'm thinking of filing for bankruptsy and would like to know what will be more damaging and lasting to my credit report, and harder to recover from the bankruptsy or the charge offs?
