I think you've within the SOL so you must be careful. As other have advised, Keep the phone message.

I would write then a new letter. Restate the request for validation, quote the passage from the FDCPA on collection activity during validation AND request that all communications on this issue be WRITTEN. Attach a copy of your fisrt letter + a copy of the return receipt. And definitely send all this CRRR!!!

Remember, you can be sued while all this is going on.
