Congratulations .. you are on your way. 3 years ago, I had the same problem. Not only was my student loan in default, there was a judgement against me. I contacted NY state Higher ED, and they set up plan that enabled me to get mt account out of default. After 6 months payments, they reconsolidated my loan at a lower % rate and removed the judgement. I recently received a copy of my credit report and everything is gone :) It now shows I have a student loan and am paying it without any delinquencies or late payments.
