My now estraged husband put me on his a few credit cards as an "authorized user" a number of years ago. After he and I separated and filed divorce in 2000 I called various credit card companies and had my name removed. In may 2001 I had my credit checked and found I was still an authorized user for a sears card. I cancelled my user status. Unbenownst to me, my estranged husband entered into credit counseling in early 2002. I recently got a new copy of my credit report and Sears is still reporting this account to my CRA with a balance of over $5000. I called them and asked to have this information removed from my CR and they refuse to do so. I told them that as an AU I was not responsible for this account, but they refuse to cooperate. At one point they even told me that if my estranged husband died, I would be held responsible for his debts as an authorized user. This is dragging my credit score down and I was recently denied credit to keep my home, which is also solely in my estranged husbands name.

I live in NY and this is not a community state. Can Sears, or anybody else, legally continue to report delinquencies on my CR as an "Authorized user"?
