im no expert but what id do is simply send them a crrr letter stating STOP ALL ACTIONS IDENTIFYING THE DEBT , once they get that they'll move on to other easier targets which of whom have no clue about their legal rights under both state & federal laws .. see collectors are "hoping" you have no clue about your legal rights becouse they know if you do their screwed , they only want easy targets .. far as your credit reports go well just my opinion but since your have under 1 year to go id leave the credit reports alone & let them fall off on their own which they will shortly if they were placed there in 1996 .. just my opinion so lots of luck kelly ..........
