Pay Them Nothing, Tell them nothing, admit to nothing. This debt is probably out of statute and uncollectable. The next time these racketeers violate the sanctity of your home with their thuggish antics on the phone, ask them for a ten count so that you can set the recording levels on your machine.
These are thugs who take people's unawareness of their rights and their fear of judicial process all the way to the bank.
Send a certified letter to them demanding that they validate the debt per FTC rules, and send a copy to your state's Attorney General. Keep a copy for yourself. Let them know that you indeed know these bums by their smell, that you really hope they leave you alone and stay out of your way, because you'd really rather not have to scrape them off your nicely shined shoes.
