The worst is you can be sued and a judgment rendered against you. Judgement does not = lien. Once they get a judgment, they have to decide how the judgement is to be executed (how they go about getting their money). Since they can't garnish in SC, they'll look for bank accounts and non-exempt property. They *could* place a lien on your home, but that won't get them paid unless you go to sell your home. If you don't intend to sell, well.. they wait and wait. Once they have a judgment, they can and will do 'debtors examinations' periodically to determine if your assets have changed and if there's anything they can grab for. You may have to appear in court or you may just have to answer interrogatories. Either way, they can keep doing these 'examinations', don't know if there's any limit to how often, but they can't do it to the point of harrassment either. Judgments can be renwed in some states, so they can hang around 'waiting' for you for a LONG time.
