Read the terms. They cannot do this until you sign anything. The one to really watch out for is capital one. They bought up tons of SOL debts and send out preapprovals. Somewhere in small lettering usually they tell you they are tacking on an old debt they bought and your credit will become available as you pay off the old debt. This really sucks as they reage the debt and you are left with the old negative for another 7 years. Bad bad deal.
