I have been avoiding my credit card debts for about six years now, and I was quite happy to see that the SOL is probably around the corner. I lived in Hawaii when I aquired the debt, but have lived in New Mexico for about six years--which SOL applies? I think I originally owed only $3500--it seemed like a million when I was young and stupid. I have avoided this debt like the plague and avoided every collection attempt. Recently, they have found me, but I continue to avoid the calls and letters. I know the first step is to get my credit report, I guess fear has kept me from getting it, and figure out exactly how long my debts have been charged off. I figure that it can't be that bad because Capital One gave me two unsecured credit cards. I have not fallen for Capital One's scam of offering a credit card to pay off another credit card's debt. I just tear up all the letters and offers. I also recieve offers to "settle" from CA's--for about the same amount, or more, of the original debt. Is there any point in paying now?

My other question is in regard to my upcoming marriage. Will my bad credit report (it has not been 7 yrs.) affect my husband's credit? He does not know about my crappy credit--though we have been together for 4 years it has been my dark secret. In fact I has been postponing getting married so that I don't screw up his credit. What happens when we buy a house together? Also, I am concerned because he joined Consumer Credit Counseling Services (CCCS) and I think that it screwed up his credit. Before this he never had a late payment, just high balances (totaling $25,000) he joined and it took months for the CC's to quit hounding him. CCCS told him that his payment plan would last 5 yrs. (he pays $486 a month) but it has been over 2 and every month the CC statements come and the balances never seem to drop. CCCS told him to ignore the statements because they are not accurate. I am afraid that after 5 years we will find out that he still owes money. Do CC's continue charging intrest? Was joining CCCS a mistake? Does it show up as a charge-off on his credit report?

Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions! :)
