false bad credit report!!

Tower Records (a music store that used to have a video rental section) via a collection agency has blemished my credit report for $200.00 claiming I never returned some rented videos. Unfortunately, the store closed over a year ago!! I do not have any videos, and want to know what proof they have that I do. Should I simply pay, or is there a way I can fight this?
