I have just in the last 2 days learned of an old cc debt that my husband has been keeping from me and as of last year he had quit paying on this particular acct. I received the call 2 nights ago from a debt recory service. The lady is very nice and very understanding of my situation; however, I am stuck about what to do. I have called the actual cc company and they are sending all of the transactions for that acct. but it will be 2 weeks before i receive that. when i spoke with them tonight I offered to settle. I do not want to "get out of the debt" i believe it is legit??????????? the balance was 6100. but on 2/14 my husband paid them 800. so now the balance is 5400. I offered them 3000. cash tomorrow to clear the acct. they will not accept this offer; largely due to "my vehicle and house". in other words i have a nice vehicle and house and i pay for them so they want all of their money. I told her that if they won't settle then I will ride it out until they take me to court and take my chances with the judge. They offered me a settlement: 1367.29/mo. for 3 mos. basically they want 5000. out of the remaining 5400. Im not sure what to do. as I said i don't want to get "out of what I owe." but like i told the agency tonight, i just found out about this yesterday and they are saying my acct closes out tomorrow. i told them that i wouldn't come up with the money tomorrow especially since my husband paid 800. last week. I have impeccable credit and I don't want to jeopardize that but I also don't want to be out 5800 for something that I was not even aware of and alot of that is late fees and interest. they are also saying that if i make a pymt tomorrow that they will freeze my interest rates for the remaining 3 mos.
