Date of Last Activity

Can someone please clarify how the date of last activity is determined?? I recently pulled my credit report and I have become concerned with how my debts are being reported, particularly the "the date of last activity" for the credit record. It appears to me that the dates are being extended to reflect a "new" date of last activity/report. Is this possible?? I am not sure I am clear on how the original "last" date of activity/report is determined and how it can be changed, if even possible. Can you help explain, for example, if I took a student loan in 1989, have never made any payment on it, probably went default on it in 1992-3(and I have not been enrolled in any school at all since 1992), that the original loan processor can show a date of last activity in 1998?? Wouldnt that be delaying the record falling off my report until 2005 instead of being based on 1992 and falling off my report in 1999 instead?

Can you clarify for me what date the SOL is based on and is this legal for the date to be reported so far after I entered into a default status on the student loans?? Is it true that the last date would be at the time I actually went into a default status on these loans?

By the way, I recently consolidated all of my defaulted students loan and those loans are now repayed. On that note, I feel it has become even more important to get this erroneous information from the original loan processors off of my report.

Thank you for your help and I hope this makes sense.

Will
