Help!!! Got a Validation ??

I have several OC's that have contracted ca's to collect for them. The OC's have not charged off the accounts. Many are already past the 180 days and should have been charged off.(will be ordering current credit reports) My question is--Since I am receiving the standard collection letter stating that I have 30 days to dispute the validity of the debt, and it is my debt, should I send a validation letter? The ca's are collecting for the OC's. My thinking is that if I sent a validation letter out that the oc's would be able to validate and that I would only set myself up for a law suit sooner. Is my thinking correct?? What exactly is the actual protocol for validation--ie: wait till charge off and sold to a ca etc? Thank you in advance for your time and patience!!
