Charge-off help! Why Chat/LadynRed or Anybody

Hey guys, this forum has been really helpful.
Here's my situation. I just got my credit report (all 3) and I have a charge off account with Capital One. The last date they reported my account was 10/1/02. I'm trying to pay this off, but I want that dreaded "charge-off" off of my CR. I haven't made any payment on the account since 3/02. Also, NCO is not on my CR just capital. So I call up capital one and they tell me they can't change it to "paid in full" or "paid as agreed" (said something about if they do that for me, then they would have to do it for everybody else) So I talk to NCO, and tell em that I will pay it in full if they don't report my collection acc. AND get capital one to change it to paid in full and they said yes. Of course I told them to send me a signed agreement, she said no prob. Based on what I've read on capital one and NCO, I'm not totally convinced. Am I getting screwed? I'm confused, help. Thank you in advance.
