Validation is not for original creditors, its really for collection agencies.

I'd go with the dispute with the CRA first, dispute it as 'not mine'. If they 'verify' it, demand they send you HOW they verified it, it is your right to request this and they must send it to you.

Community property states are tricky, but in most cases, if the debt was primarily that of ONE spouse and you derived nothing from it, then that debt (or asset) is considered 'separate', not community. If he had the accounts before you were married, it would also be considered separate.
