A couple of additional thoughts. The total amount I believe is capped at five thousand, despite whatever phony charges these bugs try to tack onto the original debt. But they're not going to get it.
They probably filed the suit with no prior letters so as to blindside you into fearful submission. These putrid bullies count on debtors' shame, guilt, fear of judicial process, and ignorance of their own rights. Always helps to have The Honorable Mr. Justice Cracker in their favor also. Old pals from the dog track, no doubt.
The idea of sending the bill with the summons might be their half-hearted defense to not validating the debt. Many times these walking herpes lesions will try to claim that they validated the debt by stating the amount owed on court papers. Not even close, make sure the FTC has all papers.
Asset Acceptance Corporation and F.A. Management Solutions are two companies which come to mind, according to reports, when hearing of these tactics.
