Collection letter w/OC account # is wrong!

I recently recieved a letter from CA which shows an original account# that is totally different from any of the original account numbers I ever had with that OC. I called the account info line with the OC and input the original account # that I have on my records. It tells me the DOLA was a payment in 8/99. I redial an input the account # from collection letter and it connects me to a customer service rep. Usually the CS rep is only connected when info is incorrect or customer selects 0. It doesn't matter as the SoL is well past but it seems odd that they have a wrong account #.
