Why Chats's Letter To Health Care Providers

I just sent it out for a medical bill I owed from 1996 that is assigned to a collection agency reporting on my CR. I could have waited till next year and let it fall off, but morally it was my debt and wanted to pay it. I included the full amount of the debt and sent it to the OC. I didn't validate with the CA first. I did call them though to get the original account number and date of service. So maybe in a way, I did validate. He want on to tell me what services was performed, x-rays and stuff. So I know that they have that info which from what I read, they shouldn't.

How effective is this letter? Has anyone tried it and got the results they wanted?
