The account is frozen pending a garnishment order, preventing you from changing accounts or removing funds when you are served with a suit.

Yes, if you can open an account in a joint name with someone (trustworthy) with their name and ss# as primary,you would be safer. A relative or trusted friend (not your wife as Tx is a community property State).

If your wife has her own account, and she is not named in a judgment, her account can not be seized.
