I am trying to negotiate a settlement on a First USA credit card account. This account was open when I lived in Maine. I am now living abroad, but plan on returning to the U.S. sometime this year. I last made a payment in may 2002.

The collection agengy just emailed on friday stating that when I make my settlement payment, First USA will never agree to 'Full Deletion' or 'Paid As Agreed'!

Is it true? What should I tell them? Please help me quickly as I need to respond today!

I am willing to pay the settlement but NEED to have
my credit upgraded as I plan on eventually buying a house.

What exactly is the difference of having
'Paid as Agreed' or 'Settlement In Full' entry in my
Credit Report?

And shouldn't they be doing all this in writing?

Thanks in advance!

Betty
-----------
here is the letter from the Collection Agency:

I will try to appeal this subject matter one last time but we can't go past 3 appeals.

I will tell you up front that they will never agree to FULL DELETION or PAID AS AGREED. They won't alter the facts. What they do is to allow us,
as their representatives, to fax or mail you a settlement-in-full agreement for your record and they eventually upgrade your report to settled-in-full.

Sincerely,

Dan Stevens
