I don't know when you are planning on returning,however, I agree with Scott,the damage to your credit has already been done, any settlement will make it worse. In addition,if you sign n agreement with them, it will have the effect of creating a new contract, so the balance will be sold to another CA, who can then legally put it on your credit reports for an additional 7 years, PLUS the legal time period for suing you would be extended as well. So, if, for instance you returned to Me. in 2006, at a point when the 6 year time limit for being sued would have past, you would still be within the SOL on the "new" balance of $7,000 plus interest. And in 2007, when the trade line from the OC would come off, you would still have another 4 years of the collection on the $7,000 being reported. Save your $$,worse comes to worse, they will get a default judgment against you in Me. which you can deal with when you return.
