I had a little surprise to my credit report when I pulled it last year. I had a collection item that I had no idea what it was. I called the collection agency listed on the report and, after correcting my name, they told me it was a lease breaking fee and missed rent from four years prior; yes it took them four years to put it on my credit report. I had lived with a roommate who moved out after me, so I was clueless that there was ever a problem. I want to buy a house this year and offered to pay the debt in exchange for removal from my credit report. They advised that once its on there, its on there. They never once tried contacting me. The only reason I found out I even had a debt is because I checked my credit report. Do I have any options?
