Help --- Anyone know anything about a company NCO?

I received a collection letter from WYSE Financial Services, Inc., Denver, CO. reference to an account NCO Portfolio Funding saying I owed them $18,412.44 in principal and interest. I have never heard of this company and certainly don't owe anyone $18,412.44. My credit has been perfect for the past 8 years. In 1995 my high paying corp job was eliminated and I had some tough times but managed to pay the creditors who worked with me until I obtained employment with another company. Oh, the same day I received another letter from them offering to settle the debt for only $8,759.46. Anyone have any advice for me on how to handle this? Your advice will be greatly appreciated.
