I have recently been receiving phone calls and getting collection notices from a collection agency called Whitewing Financial Group. They say that I owe $1085.22 on a retail charge account that was opened in 1986. According to the notice, the last payment on the account was made on 4/6/87, and the debt was charged off on 10/1/88. I have no knowledge of this account, but I suspect that the charges may have been made by my previous wife, without my knowledge. In the state of Texas am I obligated for this obsolete debt? If not, how can I stop this collection agency from harrassing me or damaging my credit?
