You have proof with your CRRR receipt that you did notify the plaintiff. If they refuse to pick it up, its a point for you in court.

Being within SOL and requesting validation doesn't automatically get you sued. A lot more depends on how much you owe and whether or not its worth it to them to spend the money to pursue you thru the courts.

Show up for the conference as required. If the atty doesn't, its not going to look good for them !
