I am in Alabama. I spoke with Asset Acceptance last night and I asked them to fax me over proof that they had purchased the account from Providian and that if I paid the balance in full that they would change the collection to paid on my credit report. He said that he would send the fax to me, but it's not here. (Please note - they told me that it would change both the entry for Providian and the entry on for Asset on the credit reports). I asked him that since they (Asset) purchased the account and Providian had nothing else to do with it, how could "Asset" make the change for Provdian on my credit reports. I didn't really get an answer to that question. This guy tried everything under the sun to get my bank account information. I told him that I wouldn't give it out. I told him that if I could have something in writing as far as an agreeemnt between us, that I would then pay with a money order by Federal Express, this way I have a copy of the money order along with proof of delivery to Asset. My thinking is that if they take the money and don't change my credit reports, then I have that proof to use at the credit bureaus. They just will not work with me at all. They only want my bank account number. And, in the meantime, what I need is for that collection entry to come off of my credit report or to at least show "paid". Any advice is helpful. I've never dealt with these types of things before.
Thanks again!
