Need next step

So, I send a validation letter to validate debt to a collection agency. I wait 60 days, although the letter says I want validation in 30 days. Nothing from the collection agency.

What is the next step? Send a follow-up letter? Send a letter to the original creditor? If this debt turns out to be a past debt and is not past SOL I would want to pay it off. So, I am not trying to get out of anything here. Just want them to prove it is mine before I proceed with anything.

Why don't they validate when you send a letter? Don't they go back to the original creditor for the information? (the debt has not been sold to the CA)

What should I do next?

Thanks!
