If you have only received one letter from Scamco, and they have not called or harrassed you,have not "poisoned" your credit report just before you are about to close on a mortgage, have not called you at work and threatened you with jail or garnishment, have not called your neighbors and relatives, and in general have not YET treated you the way they have treated many, then yes, just send them the letters, it is obviously not your war.
