My opinion is that you are only going to hurt yourself in the long run. You stop paying and it will only damage your credit further. After that point, you will have additional headaches when they pursue the monies that you owe them.
Unfortunately, credit problems do result in higher APR's - you even mentioned "temporarily blemished my credit report" - my advice is to work through and give it some more time - don't make it a more permanent blemish on your record.
