Hello,

I am looking for a suggestion, and hope i found the right place. About six months ago, I settled a debt with a collection agency presenting Providian Financial. The initial debt was about $1000. I was told I could settle it in full for $700. I paid the amount, and they faxed a settled in full ($0 balance) letter to me. Periodically, I check my credit report and it was not removed. I contacted the collection agency, who told me it should be and that I should contact providian. After speaking with Providian, having them perform an investigation, they have sent me a letter telling me they want the other $300.00. Although I would pay the $300.00 if absolutely required, doesn't my letter mean that I shouldn't have to? Is there anyway I can get them to list it as paid, as per the letter I was sent? It seems like I was scamed to paying a lump sum with false promises.

Jeremy
