Retail cards generally have lower credit limits, higher APRs and, of course, they are only good for purchasing at particular businesses.

Optimal ratio is less than 20%. Over 80% could result in higher APRs and/or reduced credit limits from existing cards. Best to keep the ratio below 50%.
