I had a settled account with american express 5 years ago. Even after 5 years I still got turned down for credit and was told a settled flag was the reason. Alot of computer applications will automatically turn you down if it detects the flag. No deletion = no settlement. Nothing in writing = no settlement. Remember those 2 things.
