I received a letter in the mail addressed to only me for a check that my ex-husband bounced on our then joint account. I called this company called National Check Control only to be mortified by the horrible things the man that I spoke with said. He was rude, disrespectful and downright out of line, then hung up on me. He never gave me his name either (big suprise?) I called back several times to speak to a 'manager' but was put on hold forever and eventually got tired of it. I am not going to pay for this debt as I didn't write or bounce the check. My divorce decree outlines the checks being his responsibility but I don't know that it specifically says the creditors name. Do I have a leg to stand on or am I 'screwed' again? Does anyone have any advice? I would also like to see what can be done about the harrassment this company is continuing to do.
