When I was laid off, I called all my creditors to let them know my situation and to find out if they'd work with me. NONE OF THEM WOULD ! They all wanted more money than I could afford on unemployment. One of your collection industry geniuses actually had the NERVE to suggest that I find a street corner on which to earn money to pay his damn company what they wanted !!! If only I'd taped that jerk - I'd have sued his ass and the company he works for !! So, I called this moron the unsavory names he deserved for his 'suggestion' and hung up on him !

So... short of prostituting myself, where was I going to get money to pay a credit card bill ?? I had to SURVIVE until I could get another job. Even the low-paying jobs wouldn't hire me - I was way over-qualified for anything they had and figured (rightly so) that as soon as I found a REAL job I'd be gone. So much for your fellows exhortations to 'take any job you can get' .. guess what, the job market doesn't work that way anymore !

I have 7 or 8 charge-offs now, they all want ridiculous sums of money NOW and I still don't have it after only 6 months of employment. I will try to pay off the smallest of the bills, but with all the ludicrous charges added, even the smallest accounts are now out of hand. My job is such that it requires all my time and energy. A 2nd job would jeopardize my health due to exhaustion and with my hours as they are, no 2nd job would put up with an erratic schedule. No, I don't want to work a 2nd job and give up what little personal life I have - if that's your response, stick it. I'm too old to be a slave to a damn creditor or collection agency. It takes MONTHS to save enough to pay off even 50% of the smallest bill, so 'repairing' in this way could take YEARS. I haven't used credit cards in over 2 years - except for a gas card once in a while - and I don't miss them one bit. Cash works just fine.

So.. you still think I'm a no-count spendthrift deadbeat ??? I think not. I AM a b-i-t-c-h when it comes to collectors who call violating my rights and making illegal threats. I will NOT tolerate it. I have no money to pay what they want and they won't take anything I CAN afford !!I'm not running from my bills, I simply have no fast way to pay them. There's no inheritance or rich relatives to help me. My mother is on SS and in an assited living facility. My brothers are both retired, my older sister works in a pharmacy as a clerk and my younger sister declared bankruptcy herself 5 years ago. So.. when I hear this laughable suggestion from a CA to 'borrow the money from a relative' I just have to laugh in their faces - then I slam down the phone.

There is no magic money pit. My refund from the IRS last year was $35 and I'm getting about that much back this year, maybe a tad more. My car is seriously in need of brakes (its a 94 with over 100k miles on it). I have a cat that must have surgery or he'll die (but I'm sure YOU and your fellow CA's would just let the animal die - some would probably let a CHILD die just to take money !!) and I have my own health concerns to worry about.
