Settle?

I am planning to purchase a house the beginning of next year, I had perfect credit, always paid my bills on time, not too much debt. The main question I have is..I got late on one credit card, through moving and such, I let the payment go for two months, it went to collections, ect..I spoke with the CA and paid $3,000, I still owe $1,200..is it better to settle with the $3,000 or pay the $1,200? If I settle, how much will this affect a home loan? Other then that, I have no other credit problems. Thanks.
