A settlement on your CR is a negative and WILL hurt your scores. If you have other good credit, and enough of it, it may not hurt you a lot. You'd be better off paying up the last $1200, negotiate to get the collection tradeline deleted for payment and ask that the account show either 'paid' or 'paid as agreeed'.
