Well,

You can't blame them, really. Look, they've had a sweet racket going for years. Buy out dead accounts for perhaps a penny on the dollar. Relentlessly harass the debtor via the telephone. Threaten the debtor with dire legal consequences whilst denying even the existence of his rights. Make money in this 'fascinating' business, as one most exteemed collection meister so terms it. Lots of money.
Much as the Supreme Court rulings of the sixties spoiled the fun of corrupt, arrest crazy cops who would set up some poor soul to inflate their quotas, along comes the internet with its credit card info chat rooms and boards. Oh, boo hoo, the racketeers and their sweet little form of quasi-legal extortion is exposed to light. As with some particularly putrescent forms of insect life, contact with photons begins the process of extinction. The death throes for some, a warning to others.
Reminisicent of the chain faxes in the Eastern Bloc during the late Eighties, information's liberating torrents could not be stanched by the controlling commissars. Down came the wall. Oh boo hoo. No more high living for the potentates. Tough.
Shrill rhetorical threats from tyrants is a dread manifestation of their illness. It constitutes a hard sign of terminal conditions. Oh, boo hoo.

'N boo to yoo too, sez who?
