Judgement against me

Well, American Express won. I now have a judgement against me. When I first got the citation, I called the attorney's office. I tried to settle, but American Express wanted more than I had. I thought I had "answered" the citation by contacting the attorney's office - stupid me - so it went to court and I, of course, wasn't there - didn't know it was happening so fast. I got the letter today. Now it's twice what they wanted after they added attorney's fees and other fees. I'm devastated. MBNA isn't far behind and for more money - especially since they raised my interest rate to 24%. American Express was around $5,000, but now it's up to $7,000 with the interest they've tacked on. I think I am screwed since I live in Texas. I don't even see how I can file personal bankruptcy. I wrote in this forum before and was told that they couldn't touch the money in our joint account until they got a judgement. Well, can they take our bill money now? I talked to the attorney's paralegal today and she said they could hold off a little while on sending the abstract judgement letter. She said they could also waive the attorney's fees and stuff, but I would have to set up some sort of payments. I can't take on any more monthly payments. I am so ignorant of this all. I really don't know what to do. I wonder if divorcing would be an answer so that I can file bk by myself. Would that hurt my husband? Any suggestions???
