Actually, you can negotiate with these debtors to have them report the accounts as "paid." You don't want them to report them as "paid charge-offs" or "settled debts"; you should get them to report them as simply "paid"--nothing else.

They may use their option as reporting them as simply "paid" as a bargaining chip to get you to pay higher percentages of the debts, but you should know that you do have that option. Of course, if you negotiate, get everything in writing.
