Garnishment laws differ by state, some states don't allow it at all. File your Answer to the summons, deny something on it - the amount is good, dispute the added interest. You'll get a court date. Go to court, do not blow it off. When you get there, you'll likely be offered a settlement. Take your own settlement offer with you. I've included a link on how to work out settements. If you don't go to court, they will win by default on THEIR terms, so you have to do your best to at least try for a settlement on YOURS.
