In response to Kevin's post.. here is exactly what the letter said

"We have received your correspondence regarding your credit file. Equifax does not maintain or service the information contained in your credit file. Your correspondence has been forwarded to the credit reporting agency which researches the credit file concerns of consumers living in your area. (my area is missouri) The credit reporting agency to which your correspondence was forwarded to is:
CSC Credit Services
BOX 981221
El Paso, TX 79998
(888) 501-6254

Should you have any further concerns or need additional help, please contact the credit reporting agency above.
Thank you for contacting Equifax.

Now what does this mean? That they can report something that they don't maintain?
