car reposession

I'm looking for any info. anyone can give me on a reposession.
Both my husband and I lost our jobs and had our vehicle voluntarily reposessed.
The difference in our loan and what the car brought at auction was roughly $11,000.
My husband is in school full time right now so we are living off financial aid, we cannot afford to pay anyting towards this debt right now.
We are being brought to court.
We own nothing as of now, no house etc. I'm wondering what is going to happen here.
They can't attatch school loans can they. How about our taxes? Does the judge have any power over changing the amount that we owe? Interest will accrue untill we have the full amount paid off?
We live in Maine. Any and all info would be appreciated.
