A agree with Don's comments, CCCS is bad news most of the time.

Dealing with Providian is somewhat better if they'll do it. Whatever you do, make sure you get any payment agreements with them IN WRITING. Otherwise, they can renege and you'll end up in collections anyway.

As for garnishment - they have to sue you and win a judgment against you FIRST, they can't just call one day and say 'tomorrow we start to garnish your paycheck'. The whole lawsuit process from service of summons to judgment can happen in 30-60 days, or it could take 3-6 months depending on the case load on the court's docket.
