No, a collection account CANNOT survive the original bad debt !!! If the original debt has dropped off, then so should any and all collection accounts associated with it.

If Sherman has re-aged the account, that is a violation of the FCRA and you can sue them for it - $1000 per violation - 1 violation for every month they report this inaccurate account.

Dispute with the Credit bureaus, the original account is obsolete. I hope you have some proof, but do the dispute anyway. You may have to reference the orignal account to prove that that account has, in fact, become obsolete.
