Fake credit card number?

an online casino asks me for credit card number, but i dont want to give my real number is there any standard number and name for a visa card? i mean not of some real person, just a fictive person and number? and i tried to type fake card number, but somehow they always know it is false? how do they check if the credit card number is real? thanks.
