So what do you do if they will take the payment, but are going to report the remaining balance on your report, is it a trick to get you to pay later?

I have a very late card offering to settle for 70%, and while they will agree not to seek collection for what remains, they'll report it on my credit record. I'm not sure what to think of the offer.
